Emma Reed

 

Emma Reed is the head of sexual orientation and transgender policy for the Government Equalities Office. In this post, which she has held since November 2008, Emma has the lead responsibility for the legislation which protects lesbian, gay and bisexual and transgender people against discrimination. This includes civil partnerships and the new Equality Act 2010. In parallel, this team is developing new programmes for LGB and T equality, which include in the workplace, in civic society and on tackling homophobic, biphobic and transphobic hate crime.

 

Prior to taking up her post at GEO, Emma worked at the Department of Health in Whitehall, where she worked on health inequalities, workplace health and had a short stint as a Private Secretary. Her civil service career stated in at the Government Office for the North West, where she worked on a range of public health programmes, ranging from children to older people.
